Modified Rapture -
The Gilbert & Sullivan Wars

Modified Rapture,
written by our very own Jim Klosty and featuring the music of
Gilbert & Sullivan, dramatizes the contentious three-way relationship between W.S.
Gilbert, Arthur Sullivan and Richard D'Oyly Carte the impresario
who brought them together and made their names household words
throughout the civilized world. Modified Rapture
is part of G&S's 30th anniversary celebration and will be
performed at the Rhinebeck Center for Performing Arts the
weekends of November 7-9 and 14-16, 2008.
We’ll be auditioning for all
principal roles:
 |
W.S. Gilbert (aged 40's or
50's) |
 |
Arthur Sullivan (aged 40's
or 50's) |
 |
Richard D'Oyly Carte (aged
40's or 50's) |
 |
Helen Lenoir (who became
Mrs. D'Oyle Carte) |
 |
Fanny Ronalds (a beautiful
American who was Arthur Sullivan's long-time mistress) |
Mrs. Ronalds must be an
excellent classical soprano. The other principal roles need to
be capable of carrying a tune. All except Fanny Ronalds require
an English accent.
In addition, we’ll be casting
singers in all voice ranges for a chorus which will sing
selections from a large portion of the G&S cannon and who may
have small speaking roles. Those
auditioning should, if possible, prepare a G&S song. If that’s
not possible, please prepare a song that showcases your vocal
ability. Those auditioning should also be prepared to do some
reading.
Jim Klosty will direct the show and Ed Lundergan will be
the music director.
There will be three audition
opportunities:
 |
Thursday, September 11, 2008 |
 |
Sunday September 14, 2008 |
 |
Monday September 15, 2008 |
All auditions begin at 7pm and
will be held at
First Presbyterian Church, 100 Cannon Street (at South
Hamilton Street), Poughkeepsie, NY.

Come and
audition, come and help our technical crew, buy your tickets, but don't get left
out of the fun!
